Amsterdam Fashion Week (AFW) is joining forces with Copenhagen Fashion Week (CPHFW) to drive sustainability across the Nordic and Benelux fashion markets. The collaboration aims to accelerate sustainability efforts within the industry, beginning with the introduction of CPHFW’s Sustainability Requirements framework into AFW’s official show schedule.
The partnership will start with a one-year pilot phase, where AFW will integrate the Minimum Standards into its current admission criteria. Full implementation of the framework is set to take effect in September 2026. During the upcoming Amsterdam Fashion Week, starting on August 30, approximately 30 brands featured in the official schedule will be assessed based on the Sustainability Framework Requirements.
AFW CEO Danie Bles emphasized the importance of sustainability: “Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. It’s not optional—it’s the future of fashion, and we’re shaping it today. We’re incredibly proud to partner with CPHFW and, through the Sustainability Requirements, support designers in making real, measurable progress in their sustainability efforts.”
Cecilie Thorsmark, CEO of Copenhagen Fashion Week, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the significance of the new partnership: “We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Amsterdam Fashion Week. This collaboration, alongside our recent partnership with the British Fashion Council, strengthens the Sustainability Requirements across Europe and fosters greater industry alignment on shared goals for positive change.”
The Sustainability Requirements framework has already been adopted by other fashion hubs, including the Norwegian Fashion Hub, Oslo Runway, and Berlin Fashion Week, marking a growing trend toward sustainable practices in the global fashion industry.
