The Government has approved a decree-law establishing new regulations for cosmetic products, including mandatory labeling requirements to ensure consumer transparency and safety.
The decree-law follows legislative authorization from the Assembly of the Republic and aligns with European Union regulations, as stated by the Council of Ministers.
Key Changes in Cosmetic Regulations
Mandatory Labeling Requirements
Cosmetic product labels must now include essential information, ensuring clarity for consumers. This also applies to cosmetics sold in bulk or packaged at the point of sale.
Product Information File (PIF) Requirements
Economic operators in the cosmetic sector must maintain a detailed product information file with relevant safety and compliance data.
System for Reporting Adverse Effects
A new reporting system will allow healthcare professionals, industry professionals, and consumers to report undesirable effects from cosmetic products.
Sanctions and Public Health Protections
Non-compliance with the regulations may result in penalties. The decree also grants authorities the power to take precautionary measures to prevent or eliminate risks associated with cosmetic products.
These new regulations aim to strengthen consumer protection, industry transparency, and product safety, aligning with broader EU standards.
