Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar is no stranger to luxury, but his latest fashion statement has left fashion enthusiasts in awe. The director was recently spotted carrying an exclusive Hermes ‘Shark Bag’ at the airport—an accessory that costs more than some high-end cars.
The bag in question, the Gold Togo Shark Bolide 45 PHW, hails from Hermes’ Timeless Vintage collection and was listed as a Limited Edition piece by Sotheby’s. The auction house had closed bidding on this rare collectible in March 2016, with the price ranging between $14,000-$18,000 (approximately ₹12-16 lakh). Currently, the bag is valued at 17,330 pounds (UK), which translates to nearly ₹19 lakh as per current exchange rates.
Crafted in 2016, the bag features luxurious Gold Togo leather, palladium hardware, and distinctive white stitching. It is lined with herringbone toile canvas and comes with a lock, two keys, a dust bag, and a box. Measuring 36 cm in height, 45 cm in width, and 23.5 cm in depth, the Shark Bolide stands out for its unique shark motif.
To put the staggering price into perspective, Johar’s bag costs more than several premium SUVs and sedans available in India, such as the Hyundai Creta, Mahindra BE 6, Toyota Innova Crysta, and Tata Harrier. These vehicles typically fall within the ₹15-20 lakh range, according to CarWale data.
Karan Johar’s extravagant style has always been a talking point, and with this latest luxury statement, he has once again set a new benchmark in Bollywood fashion.
