Audi FAW NEV Company, a joint venture between Audi and Chinese automaker FAW, has officially begun production of all-electric models at its new plant in Changchun, the capital of Jilin province in Northeast China. The facility is the first in China dedicated exclusively to manufacturing fully electric Audi models built on the PPE platform, a technology co-developed by Audi and Porsche.
The production line kicked off with the Audi Q6L e-tron family, followed by a China-specific version of the Audi A6 e-tron, the company confirmed. Audi’s commitment to the Chinese market is underscored by the launch, with Gernot Doellner, CEO of Audi AG, stating, “The start of production at Audi FAW NEV Company is a significant step forward in our electrification strategy.”
The Q6L e-tron, the first electric vehicle based on the PPE platform produced in China, features a longer wheelbase and design elements tailored to the Chinese market. Its interior includes a digital experience designed specifically for China’s tech-savvy consumers. The Audi Q6L Sportback e-tron, a more sporty variant, combines SUV practicality with a sleek, coupe-like silhouette.
Construction of the Changchun facility began in 2022, with a focus on integrating digital technology from the ground up. The plant employs cutting-edge digital manufacturing processes, creating an intelligent and efficient production environment. Audi is also implementing an integrated IT solution for the Chinese market for the first time, enhancing efficiency and speed across operations.
Helmut Stettner, CEO of Audi FAW NEV Company, emphasized the importance of collaboration between German and Chinese teams, stating, “Technology helps amplify synergies, making our operations fast, efficient, and effective.” The new site aims to strengthen Audi’s presence in China, a key market for its electrification strategy.
