Coterie Holdings, a UK-based investment firm specializing in the wine industry, has acquired Global Wine Solutions, a leading supplier of fine wines and spirits to yachts. The deal was finalized last Friday, marking another step in Coterie’s ambitious growth strategy.
Founded in May 2023, Coterie Holdings has rapidly expanded its portfolio, previously acquiring Hallgarten & Novum Wines, a prominent wine importer, and Lay & Wheeler, a well-established wine distributor. This latest acquisition further strengthens its position in the global wine market.
Liam Steevenson MW, CEO of Global Wine Solutions, expressed enthusiasm about the new partnership, particularly the opportunity to collaborate with Lay & Wheeler, which is now a sister company under the Coterie umbrella. “Working with the incredibly talented Lay & Wheeler team, alongside the resources offered by Coterie Vaults, will significantly enhance our capabilities and allow us to continue delivering exceptional solutions to our clients,” Steevenson said.
Global Wine Solutions, founded in 2007 by Steevenson, has established a strong international presence with offices in the UK, France, and the US. Alongside Steevenson, Master of Wine Mark Pygott MW is also a key member of the company.
Steevenson praised the acquisition, noting, “We are thrilled to become part of the Coterie Holdings family. This partnership brings together two organizations that share a passion for excellence and innovation within the wine industry.”
Michael Saunders, CEO of Coterie Holdings, highlighted the unique expertise Global Wine Solutions brings in catering to luxury markets, particularly the yacht sector. “Global Wine Solutions is a natural fit for Coterie Holdings. Their focus on sourcing and distributing fine wines and spirits to niche markets aligns perfectly with our vision for growth and excellence across the industry,” Saunders said.
Saunders also reflected on his long-standing relationship with Steevenson, which spans over two decades. “I’ve seen Liam innovate and succeed within a traditionally conservative industry, and his expertise and leadership will be a tremendous asset to the team.”
This acquisition is seen as a key element of Coterie Holdings’ broader international expansion strategy, which includes a particular focus on the Asian market. The global presence of Global Wine Solutions in key maritime hubs will be a vital component of this growth initiative.
