Nicola Kilner, co-founder and CEO of Deciem, has announced she will resign from her position at the end of the year, following the completion of The Estée Lauder Companies’ US$1.7 billion acquisition of Deciem five months ago.
Kilner co-founded Deciem in 2013 alongside Brandon Truaxe, whose innovative vision helped shape the company into a beauty industry disruptor. Deciem gained global recognition with the launch of The Ordinary in 2017, a skincare brand that became its most successful product. Estée Lauder first invested in Deciem in 2017, gradually increasing its stake to become the majority owner in 2021, before finalizing the full acquisition earlier this year.
Kilner’s decision to step down comes amid broader leadership changes at Estée Lauder, including the recent appointment of Stéphane de La Faverie as the company’s new CEO, effective January 2025.
