Rimac Technology is poised to significantly expand its production capabilities, with plans to deliver tens of thousands of electric drive systems annually for major automotive giants BMW and Ceer, the first electric vehicle manufacturer in Saudi Arabia.
The Croatian-based company will provide Ceer with electric powertrains for its upcoming range of vehicles, which will be produced at Rimac’s automated production facility in Jankomir, Zagreb. Ceer, backed by Hon Hai Precision (Foxconn) and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), aims to revolutionize the electric vehicle (EV) market in the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region.
James DeLuca, CEO of Ceer, expressed that Rimac’s expertise in high-performance electric powertrains aligns perfectly with the company’s strategic goals. “Rimac’s global reputation in electric powertrain design will play a key role in helping us deliver high-end electric vehicles, while also contributing to the transformation of the automotive industry in Saudi Arabia,” DeLuca said. PIF, one of the world’s largest sovereign wealth funds, also made a significant investment in Rimac’s Project 3 Mobility earlier this year, further cementing the collaboration.
The partnership with Ceer marks a major milestone in Rimac Technology’s evolution, transitioning from limited-production high-performance projects to large-scale manufacturing for leading global automakers. Rimac’s previous projects, including the Rimac Nevera, Pininfarina Battista, Aston Martin Valkyrie, and Koenigsegg Regera, were limited in volume, but the deal with Ceer reflects the company’s ambition to play a significant role in the mass production of electric vehicle technologies.
In addition to its collaboration with Ceer, Rimac Technology has also partnered with the BMW Group to develop and produce battery systems for future BMW models. The company has signed additional contracts with European automakers, solidifying its position as a key player in the electric vehicle industry.
Mate Rimac, founder and CEO of Rimac Technology, believes that the collaboration with Ceer is a crucial step in the company’s global expansion in electrification. “In 2024 alone, Rimac Technology has announced key partnerships with BMW and Ceer, resulting in the production of tens of thousands of electric drive and battery systems for some of the world’s top car manufacturers,” Rimac stated. “We’re strategically investing in our facilities, including the Rimac Campus in Croatia, to support these projects, which will soon be operating at full capacity.”
Ceer plans to design, manufacture, and sell a wide range of electric vehicles, including sedans and large SUVs, for customers across Saudi Arabia and the MENA region. The company’s ambitious goals to establish itself as the first homegrown EV brand in Saudi Arabia are bolstered by its strategic partnership with Rimac, as well as its backing from one of the world’s largest investment funds.
As Rimac continues to scale its operations, the company’s partnerships with major players like BMW and Ceer are set to drive the future of electric mobility both in Europe and the Middle East.
