Lindsay McCall was honored with the prestigious 2024 Victorian Legend of the Vine Award at the Melbourne Royal Wine Show Awards Lunch on Friday, November 1. McCall, founder of Paringa Estate, was celebrated for his exceptional contributions to both the Mornington Peninsula wine region and the broader Victorian wine industry.
The Legend of the Vine Award, established in 2014, recognizes individuals who have made significant impacts on the wine industry, and McCall’s efforts have been instrumental in elevating local and national winemaking standards. Known for his hands-on approach to winemaking and innovative vineyard practices, McCall’s commitment to quality has solidified Paringa Estate’s position as one of Victoria’s leading wineries.
His role as a long-time member of the Mornington Peninsula Vignerons Association, including his tenure as President, and his leadership in the Pinot Noir Celebration Australia, further highlight his dedication to the region. McCall’s new title as Victorian Legend of the Vine also underscores his ongoing advocacy for Australian wine, both at home and abroad.
Angus Barnes, Executive Chairman of the Wine Communicators of Australia, commended McCall for his steadfast leadership in the Mornington Peninsula wine industry, acknowledging his low-profile yet impactful presence in shaping the region’s success. “Lindsay exemplifies the qualities of an exceptional communicator – consistent, reliable, and a mentor to many,” said Barnes. “His legacy will continue to inspire future generations of winemakers in Victoria.”
McCall joins fellow 2024 recipients Prue Henschke of South Australia and Sally Evans of New South Wales in receiving the award. As the eighth Victorian recipient, McCall joins an elite group of past honorees, including industry figures such as Alister Purbrick, Ross Brown, and Brian Croser AO.
The Legend of the Vine Award is part of a broader national recognition program across New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia. McCall’s enduring influence ensures the continued prosperity of the Australian wine industry for years to come.
