South African yacht builder Southern Wind has officially commenced construction on the third hull of its popular 35.31-meter SW108 sailing yacht series. The SW108 features striking interior and exterior designs by Nauta Design, while naval architecture is credited to Farr Yacht Design. The first hull, named Gelliceaux, was launched in August 2023, with the second hull set to debut in the coming weeks.
The third hull has been commissioned by an experienced owner characterized by Southern Wind as “young, sporty, and an inspiring sailor,” with aspirations to excel in superyacht racing. The owner’s brief emphasized the creation of a multifunctional yacht capable of meeting his needs for racing, ocean cruising, and extended onboard stays.
The SW108 #3 will include a high modulus carbon mast and boom, as well as a lifting keel and titanium deck fittings, providing a displacement of 74.2 tons. In line with the Southern Wind Smart Custom philosophy, the yacht has been extensively customized to enhance onboard comfort.
The interior layout features a spacious L-shaped social area located forward of the saloon, complemented by lounge and dining areas and a dedicated TV lounge. Each space on the yacht has been thoughtfully designed to serve multiple purposes, reflecting the owner’s desire for versatility.
Accommodation aboard the SW108 #3 consists of four staterooms, with the owner’s stateroom positioned forward and three additional guest staterooms, allowing for a total of eight guests onboard.
A notable highlight of the SW108 #3’s design is her innovative ‘Seaside Lounge’ located on the aft deck, which offers guests a unique connection to the water. A transom door system links the aft cockpit to an expansive sea platform that can be customized with large sunbeds, L-shaped seating, transformable coffee tables, or even an outdoor cinema setup.
In terms of performance, the third SW108 will be powered by a single Cummins engine, and the foredeck will feature a recess designed to accommodate a 5.2-meter Williams Sportjet tender.
“The SW108 #03 represents an important addition to the Southern Wind fleet, embodying the strong personality of her experienced owner,” stated Southern Wind. The yacht is expected to launch by the end of 2025.
