In a bold move, Breitling has expanded its Chronomat collection with the introduction of the Chronomat 28, marking a new chapter in its design evolution. Launched in 2024, this new model features a 28mm case—the smallest in the Chronomat line—reflecting a sleek, 1980s-inspired aesthetic. The collection includes four models: three in stainless steel and one in two-tone, all adorned with sustainable, lab-grown diamonds, mother-of-pearl dials, and equipped with thermo-compensated quartz movements.
The Chronomat 28 measures just 8.46mm in height and 34.6mm across its case, making it a perfect choice for collectors with smaller wrists. It retains key design features associated with the brand, including the signature onion-shaped crown, a cambered sapphire crystal, and the iconic rider tab bezel, which has been refined for a more streamlined look. The bezel’s tabs, adorned with brilliant-cut diamonds on gem-set models, enhance the overall elegance while providing protection for the crystal—a feature originally designed for the demands of aviation.
One of the standout features of the Chronomat 28 is the return of the Rouleaux bracelet, which complements the new design perfectly. The bracelet’s straight lugs transition smoothly and boast polished and beveled edges, matching the refined aesthetic of the watch. The stainless steel and two-tone models also come equipped with a seamless butterfly clasp for added convenience.
All four models showcase stunning mother-of-pearl dials in various shades. The two stainless steel versions without diamonds are available for $4,800 each, while the stainless steel model with a diamond bezel is priced at $7,000. The two-tone model with a diamond bezel retails for $10,250. The collection adheres to Breitling’s commitment to sustainability, as it transitions from mined to lab-grown diamonds by 2026 under its “Origins label.”
At the heart of the Chronomat 28 is the Breitling 72 SuperQuartz™ movement, which is ten times more precise than standard quartz movements and holds a COSC certification. This innovative movement ensures accuracy while boasting a battery life of 3-4 years.
As the Chronomat 28 captures the attention of watch enthusiasts, many are eager to see if Breitling will introduce additional variants with plain dials, akin to its larger counterpart, the Chronomat 32. The new collection is available online and at Breitling boutiques, promising to make waves in the luxury watch market, especially for those with smaller wrists.
