Spinnova has joined forces with ASK Scandinavia, a Helsinki-based premium brand renowned for its timeless, design-driven bags, to create a limited-edition work tote bag inspired by Nordic design. This collaboration aims to merge ASK Scandinavia’s minimalist aesthetic with high standards of durability and usability, making the tote an essential accessory for everyday use.
The bag showcases the contributions of three sustainable innovators: Spinnova’s pioneering textile fibers, ASK Scandinavia’s versatile Nordic design ethos, and Natural Indigo Finland’s innovative dyes derived from coffee waste. This partnership embodies a holistic approach to sustainability in product design.
Spinnova’s fibers boast 74% fewer CO2 emissions and require 98% less water compared to conventional cotton. ASK Scandinavia’s commitment to timeless designs and quality materials ensures the longevity of the bag’s lifecycle. Meanwhile, Natural Indigo Finland’s dyes, extracted from waste coffee grounds, are less toxic than synthetic alternatives, resulting in a shorter dyeing process and allowing the same batch of dyes to be reused multiple times.
“We are honored to collaborate with pioneers like Spinnova and Natural Indigo Finland, whose innovations are setting new standards in fashion,” said Anette Cantagallo, Director of Design and Sustainability at ASK Scandinavia. “At ASK Scandinavia, we are dedicated to reducing the industry’s environmental impact by incorporating next-generation materials that replace conventional, non-renewable resources. This partnership demonstrates how impactful collaborations can actively contribute to a more sustainable fashion industry.”
Shahriare Mahmood, Chief Product and Sustainability Officer at Spinnova, added, “We are excited to collaborate with a timeless Nordic brand to launch a product in a new category: handbags. Using natural dyes for the bag’s color highlights the comprehensive sustainability approach considered during the design phase. We aimed to explore the versatility of Spinnova’s fibers in various applications and dyeing methods, and we are very satisfied with the result.”
