Papa Salt has made waves in the spirits industry with the debut of its first ready-to-drink (RTD) cocktail, the Papa Salt Paloma, at SXSW Sydney this week. This launch comes ahead of the summer trading season, following the brand’s rapid rise since the introduction of its Australian coastal gin in May 2023. Co-founded by Margot Robbie and friends Josey McNamara, Tom Ackerley, Charlie Maas, and Regan Riskas Maas, Papa Salt continues to expand its portfolio with this refreshing new addition.
The Papa Salt Paloma is elegantly packaged in a slim 250ml can with an ABV of 5%. It will be available at all SXSW Sydney bars throughout the festival, which opened on Monday, and is set to reach bottle shops nationwide in early November.
With only 99 calories and one standard drink per can, the Papa Salt Paloma features the award-winning Papa Salt Gin blended with Capi Grapefruit Soda, made from natural, locally sourced ingredients to ensure a vibrant grapefruit flavor enhanced by a hint of rosemary.
Charlie Maas, CEO of Papa Salt, stated, “When we first launched Papa Salt, Australian bartenders kept serving our gin mixed with Capi Grapefruit Soda. It’s a beautifully simple drink, and one that is all-Australian. When we started to consider a canned product, it was the obvious choice.”
Ahead of the launch, Maas emphasized the brand’s commitment to quality and convenience. “As a brand, you have to adapt, and one way to do that is to create a package that’s a bit easier to bring around and share than a standard big bottle,” he explained.
Maas also expressed initial concerns about ensuring the quality of the RTD. “Our hesitation around an RTD was about quality: how do we ensure the consumer knows this is a great product? In the end, we decided that partnering with a renowned mixer brand was the way to do that. Capi makes great products, and one of our favorites is their Grapefruit Soda, so we arrived at a Paloma from a quality angle. What’s the best thing we can put in this can? A Papa Salt Paloma with Capi Grapefruit Soda.”
In addition to the Paloma launch, Papa Salt announced new packaging formats for its bottled gin, including a 50ml mini bottle and a new 1-liter bottle, further enhancing its offerings in the spirits market.
