The 86-meter Benetti superyacht Kingdom 5KR collided with a quay in Bizerte, Tunisia last week, causing significant damage. Images of the accident, shared on social media on October 11, suggest that the crash may have been caused by a loss of control, potentially due to mechanical failure or miscommunication by the captain.
The incident occurred while the yacht was attempting to dock. An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the crash. No major injuries or structural issues have been reported, but the full extent of the damage is still being assessed.
Built in 1980 by Benetti, Kingdom 5KR was originally named Nabila and gained international fame after appearing in the 1983 James Bond film Never Say Never Again. Designed by Luigi Sturchio and featuring exterior work by Bannenberg & Rowell, the yacht has had multiple owners. In 1991, it was acquired by a Saudi prince and renamed Kingdom 5KR after his company, his lucky number, and his children’s initials.
Notable features of the yacht include a spa, gym, pool with a water jet, and a helipad. Powered by twin Nohab diesel engines, Kingdom 5KR can cruise comfortably at 17 knots, with a maximum speed of 20 knots.
