Audi has unveiled the 2025 Q6 e-tron electric SUV, introducing a stylish Sportback variant with an impressive driving range of up to 656 kilometers. This new model, set to arrive in Australian showrooms, represents the fourth Audi SUV to feature a Sportback design, following the Q3, Q4 e-tron, and Q5. The coupe-like roofline not only enhances energy efficiency but also results in a slightly reduced boot space.
Pricing details will be confirmed closer to the Australian launch; however, the Q6 Sportback is expected to carry a premium over the estimated starting price of around AUD 110,000 for the standard Q6.
The Sportback variant boasts a redesigned upper body, featuring a sleeker roofline that makes it 37mm lower than the regular Q6 wagon. According to Audi, this aerodynamic shape results in a 9 to 15-kilometer increase in driving range, supported by a lower drag coefficient of 0.26, down from 0.28.
The boot space is slightly diminished, offering 511 liters (down from 526 liters) behind the rear seats, which expands to 1,373 liters with the seats folded. Additionally, there’s 64 liters of storage available under the bonnet. The Sportback maintains the overall design of the Q6, with options for either silver or black grille frames.
Innovative OLED tail-lights capable of changing their display every 10 milliseconds are included, featuring eight different light signatures and matrix LED headlights.
Inside, the Sportback mirrors the three-screen dashboard of the wagon, comprising an 11.9-inch instrument cluster, a 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen, and a 10.9-inch touchscreen for the front passenger. The passenger display, optional in Europe, is expected to be standard in Australian models.
The infotainment system operates on new software based on Android Automotive, offering built-in apps such as YouTube and ChatGPT AI integration. The interior features a range of recycled materials, including recycled polyester for the roof lining and sun visors, as well as seat trim options made from Dinamica microfibre, also utilizing recycled polyester.
Additional features include an augmented-reality head-up display and an optional 20-speaker, 830-watt Bang and Olufsen sound system, which includes speakers embedded in the front-seat headrests.
Built on Audi’s PPE electric-car architecture, co-developed with Porsche for the new Macan, the Q6 Sportback features an 800-volt electrical system for faster charging. It measures 4,771mm in length, 1,965mm in width, and 1,665mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,899mm. This makes it slightly longer and wider than a Tesla Model Y, with a taller roofline but a narrower body.
The entry-level model in Europe will include a 75.8kWh battery (usable capacity, or 83kWh gross) paired with a 185kW electric motor, achieving a 0-100km/h acceleration in seven seconds and a WLTP range of 545km, an increase of 12km over the Q6 wagon.
The ‘Performance’ model features a 94.9kWh usable (100kWh gross) battery and a 225kW rear motor, allowing for a 0-100km/h time of 6.6 seconds and a WLTP range of 656km, an increase of 15km.
For those seeking all-wheel drive, the Q6 Sportback e-tron quattro offers 285kW from dual motors, with a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 5.9 seconds and a WLTP range of 636km, an increase of 11km.
The flagship SQ6 e-tron quattro delivers 360kW from dual motors, achieving a 0-100km/h time of 4.3 seconds and a WLTP range of 607km, an increase of 9km.
All Q6 models feature a top speed limiter of 210km/h, with the SQ6 capped at 230km/h. Audi claims a braked towing capacity of 2,400kg for the Q6 Sportback e-tron quattro and 2,000kg for other models, with adaptive air suspension available.
Fast charging capabilities reach up to 225kW with the 75.8kWh battery and 260kW with the 94.9kWh battery, allowing for a 10 to 80% charge in approximately 22 minutes, equating to 265km of WLTP-rated range in just 10 minutes.
The 2025 Audi Q6 Sportback e-tron and SQ6 Sportback e-tron are expected to open for orders in Europe by the end of the year, with prices starting from €66,100 (approximately AUD 106,300), reflecting a €2,600 (AUD 4,200) premium over the traditional wagon model.
