Australian aperitif brand Rhubi, in collaboration with the not-for-profit Mix Haus, is launching a new cocktail competition aimed at highlighting female and non-binary bartenders while raising funds for women in hospitality. Building on the success of last year’s #JustAddRHUBI competition, this initiative invites women from across the industry to create and showcase their own Rhubi-based cocktails.
The competition aims to elevate the profile of Australia’s female bartending talent and foster positive cultural change within the industry. Shirley Yeung, Co-founder of Mix Haus and an award-winning bartender, emphasized the importance of such initiatives: “Brands must support diversity in our industry. Collaborating with Rhubi on this campaign since last year has been crucial, and with Rhubi being a female-run brand, it aligns perfectly with our mission. Highlighting talented women and raising funds for our cause is our ultimate goal.”
Participants nationwide are encouraged to design cocktails featuring Rhubi, a rhubarb aperitif, as the central ingredient. Entries must be shared on social media and made available in participating venues to qualify.
The competition will commence with an initial judging phase based on entry forms. Four finalists will be selected to compete in an all-female bartender takeover at Burrow Bar in Sydney, owned by women, on 25 November. The winner will receive a $1,000 cash prize, with all event proceeds benefiting Mix Haus.
Linn Philips-Johansson, Rhubi’s Director and a proponent of the brand’s female-focus ethos, remarked, “We are thrilled to use this competition to support women in hospitality and spark discussions about gender in our industry. The La Semeuse figure on our bottle caps symbolizes our commitment to female empowerment.”
The competition not only showcases Rhubi’s versatility in cocktails but also underscores the brand’s dedication to supporting and celebrating women in the hospitality sector.
