The 136.8-metre superyacht Alibaba, built by Lürssen, has been observed undergoing sea trials near Brunsbüttel, Germany. Launched in December 2023, Alibaba is the latest masterpiece from the renowned German shipyard, featuring in-house naval architecture.
Since construction commenced in 2019, details about Alibaba have remained largely confidential. The yacht stands out with Lürssen’s characteristic elongated bow and angular design elements, giving it a commanding presence in any port.
Alibaba’s design includes four expansive decks that combine sophistication with a militaristic edge. Notably, the aft deck is nearly half the length of the yacht, offering ample exterior space.
The vessel drew attention last year due to a technical issue that caused a dock gate failure, leading to a premature launch. During this incident, water was expelled from the dock, inadvertently pushing Alibaba’s bow into the dock curtain.
Propelled by twin MAN engines, Alibaba features a steel hull and an aluminium superstructure. Lürssen is also working on other notable superyachts, including the 134.2-metre Deep Blue, scheduled for delivery in 2025, and the 114.2-metre Cosmos, along with the 102.4-metre JassJ.
