Following the successful debut of the 2018 vintage through La Place de Bordeaux last September, Yalumba has now introduced the 2019 vintage of The Octavius Old Vine Shiraz to its prestigious international distribution network.
In addition, Yalumba is celebrating the Hill-Smith family’s 175 years of winemaking heritage with a limited museum release of The Octavius Old Vine Shiraz 2009. This release underscores the family’s deep-rooted connection to the Barossa Valley, as the wine is produced from some of the world’s oldest Shiraz vineyards, with vines dating back to 1854.
Robert Hill-Smith, the fifth-generation winemaker, expressed pride in presenting the 2019 vintage globally. “We are honored to be part of La Place de Bordeaux, showcasing The Octavius on a global stage. The 2019 vintage is a true representation of the Barossa’s unique terroir and highlights Australia’s winemaking excellence. As we mark 175 years of our family’s winemaking tradition, this milestone release exemplifies our dedication to crafting wines that embody a sense of place and history,” he stated.
The Octavius Old Vine Shiraz reflects Yalumba’s commitment to preserving Barossa’s winemaking legacy. Hill-Smith emphasized the rarity of such ancient vines, noting, “The Octavius is a tribute to these venerable vineyards and our winemaking tradition. The release of the 2009 vintage from our museum collection offers enthusiasts a chance to savor the elegance of a perfectly cellared 15-year-old Barossa Shiraz.”
The 2019 vintage is noted for its aromas of black fruits, complemented by fragrant vanilla and spice, and a rich, balanced body. The Octavius Old Vine Shiraz exemplifies Yalumba’s winemaking expertise and reinforces the Barossa region’s status in the international fine wine arena.
The Octavius Old Vine Shiraz 2019 and the limited 2009 museum release are available through La Place de Bordeaux and can be purchased from select negotiants worldwide. Samuel Smith & Son and Negociants New Zealand remain the exclusive distributors for Australia and New Zealand.
