Meghan Markle is elevating her fashion engagement by investing in Cesta Collective, a socially conscious handbag brand she has frequently showcased.
In a recent interview with The New York Times, the Duchess of Sussex, 43, disclosed her investment in Cesta Collective, a brand known for its mission-driven approach and handwoven basket bags made by women in Rwanda. These artisans are compensated significantly above the national average, with the bags finished in Italy.
Markle, who has been a prominent supporter of the brand, first carried Cesta Collective’s drawstring Bucket Bag ($790) during a May 2023 dinner with Prince Harry, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Cameron Diaz at a Santa Barbara sushi bar. The bag sold out quickly, reflecting the substantial impact of her endorsement.
Cesta Collective co-founder Erin Ryder noted that the brand experienced a surge in sales following Markle’s appearance, leading to her becoming the brand’s first external investor.
In the interview, Markle reflected on her influence in the fashion world, recalling how a Strathberry Midi Tote ($845) she wore during a 2017 public engagement sold out in just 11 minutes. She emphasized how such moments have shaped her approach to fashion, often using her platform to spotlight emerging designers and brands.
Markle has been seen with various Cesta Collective pieces, including the Braided Canvas Tote ($750) and Crossbody ($750), the latter of which she wore at the 2023 Invictus Games. Her style choices also include a brown Suede Clutch ($490) matched with a Max Mara wrap coat and a beige Crossbody for a recent trip to Colombia.
Beyond fashion, Markle’s investment portfolio is expanding, including ventures such as vegan instant latte brand Clevr Blends. She noted that these investments align with her personal growth and upcoming projects, including her new business, American Riviera Orchard.
