Wines of Western Australia (WoWA), in collaboration with Wine Australia, has appointed Eloise Jarvis as Program Manager for its sustainability project aimed at promoting sustainable practices among the region’s wine growers and producers. The initiative, titled “Sustainability Adoption, Certification, and Promotion for Western Australian Wine Growers and Producers,” is designed to boost the adoption of Sustainable Winegrowing Australia certification and support broader sustainability efforts in the region.
With more than 25 years of experience as a winemaker, educator, and consultant, Jarvis brings a wealth of knowledge to the role. A graduate of the Wine Australia Future Leaders program, she is dedicated to advancing sustainability through education and collaboration.
Larry Jorgensen, Chief Executive Officer of Wines of Western Australia, emphasized the importance of the project, noting that one of the key goals of the Western Australian Wine Industry Strategic Plan 2024–34 is to position the region among the top ten internationally recognized areas for sustainable wine production. “This project will develop a practical toolkit and pathway to support Western Australian wine producers in achieving sustainability recognition both domestically and internationally, with a primary focus on Sustainable Winegrowing Australia certification,” Jorgensen said.
Jarvis, who is currently leading the Wine Australia Next Crop program in Margaret River and has previously implemented the region’s Sustainability Action Plan, expressed her enthusiasm for the new role. “It’s a privilege to be selected to deliver this project. I’m really excited by the opportunity to collaborate with grapegrowers, wine producers, and stakeholders across each wine region to increase awareness, engagement, and adoption of environmental, social, and governance practices that will help create a prosperous and resilient wine community,” she said.
The project aims to expand membership in Sustainable Winegrowing Australia by providing localized technical expertise and guidance, aligning with the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) needs of production and business practices. A key element of Jarvis’ approach will be to address barriers to the adoption of Sustainable Winegrowing Australia standards, helping producers enhance their sustainability practices through a supportive framework.
