Gibson Wines has introduced its latest innovation through the Discovery Road range: the Gibson Riesling Seltzer. This new offering is crafted from single-vineyard Eden Valley Riesling and paired with pure sparkling water from Adelaide Hills brand A Rock And A Hard Place.
The Gibson Riesling Seltzer is available in a limited release, with only 230 cases distributed nationwide. The product is packaged in 250ml single-serve cans and is available through a first-come-first-serve online registration process.
Since 2021, Gibson Wines has been exploring new production concepts, and the Riesling Seltzer is touted as an Australian-first. The ready-to-drink (RTD) product aims to attract a new generation of consumers to Riesling and elevate the seltzer category.
Gibson Wines CEO Chad Elson noted that the inspiration for the seltzer stemmed from the success of A Rock And A Hard Place’s premium Adelaide Hills water. “It’s featured in some of South Australia’s top dining venues. It’s a pristine product from pristine environs and speaks of a specific place,” Elson said.
Elson also highlighted the collaboration with the Barossa Bushgardens, a local botanic garden that serves as a seed bank for regional plant species. The seltzer incorporates native lemongrass, sourced from an Indigenous-owned supplier in the Clare Valley, which adds a unique herbal note to the product.
Winemaker Adam Fierget described the seltzer as “Riesling reimagined,” noting the subtle lemon sorbet aroma from the lemongrass that complements the citrus qualities of the Eden Valley Riesling. The seltzer’s slatey, mineral finish, enhanced by the sparkling spring water, is described as ultra-refreshing.
