Malaysian designer bag brand Sometime has responded to feedback regarding a recent campaign shoot featuring influencer Affizy Khairy, known as Agy. The brand issued a statement expressing gratitude to its followers for sharing their thoughts on a video posted on August 14, in which Agy is seen showcasing the new Kuki convertible bag collection.
“We’re grateful for a caring audience that shares their concerns on behalf of the brand,” Sometime stated, acknowledging the feedback.
In the campaign video, Agy is featured posing with the Kuki bag, with the final edited shot revealed at the end. Sometime clarified that Agy was selected for the campaign due to his exceptional creativity and unique perspective as a content creator and internet personality. The brand emphasized that Agy’s talents and skills were the primary factors in his selection and that there was no intention to offend its audience.
To further illustrate Agy’s contribution, Sometime shared behind-the-scenes footage showing his dedication during the shoot. The video highlights Agy’s multiple attempts to achieve the perfect shot, including scenes of him tirelessly jumping and leaping to capture the desired image.
Despite some criticism from users who questioned the unisex appeal of the bag and criticized Agy’s appearance as feminine, Sometime has continued to support the campaign. The brand continued posting content featuring Agy and the Kuki collection, standing by its decision to include him in the campaign.
Support for both Sometime and Agy has also emerged, with fans praising Agy’s work and the brand’s decision to stand by him. One user noted that Agy did an excellent job promoting the bag, while another expressed approval of Sometime’s choice to keep Agy as the campaign’s model.
This incident follows a similar situation in April when Malaysian beauty brand Kitsui faced backlash related to a controversy involving local celebrities. Kitsui issued a statement at the time, apologizing for being drawn into the social media drama and clarifying that it did not support any side in the matter.
