Simone Biles, the gymnastics legend, has delivered a sharp response to critics who questioned her post-Olympics shopping spree in Paris. The Olympic champion clarified that her new Hermès handbag, typically worth tens of thousands of dollars, wasn’t purchased with her own money.
Biles took to social media to explain that her parents, Ronald and Nellie, gifted her the luxurious bag as a reward for her historic Olympic achievements. In a sassy reply to her detractors, she quipped, “My parents bought me my Hermès bag. Don’t be mad at me, be mad at your parents.”
The clarification came after a few online trolls criticized Biles for what they perceived as flaunting her wealth, following her posts showcasing high-end shopping in Paris, including images of Birkin and Kelly bags at the Hermès store.
Despite the backlash, many of Biles’ fans rallied to her defense, asserting that she has every right to spend her money as she pleases. While Biles had initially left fans guessing which Hermès bag she might have purchased, it turns out the answer was none – the bag was a gift from her parents. However, her bold response is unlikely to quiet her critics.
