This morning, the watch world was abuzz with photos of Daniel Craig wearing an unreleased Omega Seamaster dive watch at the Olympics, which is expected to be released in 2025.
Craig is a well-known ambassador for Omega and has a history of showcasing Omega watches. His James Bond character wears an Omega Seamaster, and Omega not only sponsors the Olympics, but also has a tradition of launching commemorative watches for the Olympics.
Previously, Craig showed off a lacquered dial white Speedmaster at an Omega event in New York last November. Although planned for immediate release, internal delays pushed the watch’s debut to March of this year, boosting its status as the watch of the year.
Craig’s latest release is a no-date version of the popular Seamaster, which enthusiasts have long sought after. The new model directly competes with Rolex’s famous no-date Submariner. Key features include a black dial, mesh bracelet, flat crystal (rather than the more common domed design), and a ceramic bezel.
There has been speculation that the watch resembles the “service watches” used by US Navy SEALs and Secret Service agents, a topic highlighted by Esquire Watches of Espionage. Meanwhile, a Reddit thread dedicated to the surprise watch release quickly shifted focus to a discussion of the former 007’s appearance.
