Omega, the official timekeeper and sponsor of the Olympic Games, has awarded Omega watches to South Korean athletes Oh Sang-uk and Oh Ye-jin for clinching the first gold medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Since the 2012 London Olympics, Omega has presented these prestigious timepieces to Korean athletes achieving this milestone, with exceptions noted for the 2020 Tokyo Games. For the 2014 Sochi, 2016 Rio, and 2022 Beijing Games, this tradition continued, marking Paris as the fifth instance of the award.
Ahead of the Paris Olympics, Omega announced that two watches from their collection commemorating the event would be given—one each to a male and female athlete securing Korea’s inaugural gold medals. The watches, namely the Speedmaster Chronoscope and Seamaster Diver 300M, are valued at $9,800 and $8,900 respectively, featuring “Paris 2024” and the Olympic logo engraved on their backs.
Oh Sang-uk claimed Korea’s first gold of the 2024 Paris Olympics in the men’s individual sabre final, defeating Tunisia’s Fares Ferjani with a score of 15-11. Simultaneously, Oh Ye-jin, making her Olympic debut, set an Olympic record of 243.2 points to win gold in the women’s 10-meter air pistol event.
Previous recipients of these prestigious Omega watches include Jin Jong-oh (2012), Lee Sang-hwa (2014), the male archery team (2016), and short track speed skaters Hwang Dae-heon and Choi Min-jeong (2022).
Omega’s gesture underscores their commitment to honoring excellence in sports and celebrating outstanding achievements on the global Olympic stage.
