Trader Joe’s mini insulated tote bags have made a much-anticipated comeback, hitting store shelves on Wednesday after their initial release in June led to an immediate sell-out. The $3.99 mini cooler bags, available in “hot magenta” and “cool teal,” have proven to be a sensation among shoppers.
Upon their initial release, the insulated cooler bags quickly became highly sought after, with some customers turning to resale platforms like eBay to capitalize on their popularity. Listings for the bags on eBay have seen prices soar, with some sets of the bags being sold for as much as $200. Currently, there are 150 listings for these cooler bags on the platform.
Trader Joe’s confirmed to CBS MoneyWatch that the mini totes are now back in stock. The grocer had previously assured customers in June that the bags would return later in the summer.
“A limited number of magenta and teal mini insulated totes will be available for $3.99 in most Trader Joe’s stores today,” Trader Joe’s stated to CBS MoneyWatch.
As of Wednesday afternoon, the bags were available at a Manhattan Trader Joe’s store, where customers were limited to purchasing two bags per person. This limit, however, may vary by store as it is determined by individual locations.
Trader Joe’s promotes these mini bags as ideal for “lunches, travel & outdoor activities,” capable of holding up to 1.5 gallons of food and drink. Despite their simple design, reminiscent of traditional kids’ lunch bags with soft exteriors, their popularity remains high.
This isn’t the first time Trader Joe’s-branded merchandise has sparked a consumer frenzy. The store’s mini canvas tote bags, initially priced at $2.99, also experienced rapid sell-outs. In one notable instance, a seller listed a set of four of these canvas bags on eBay for $499.99, which breaks down to an astonishing $125 per bag.
The return of the mini insulated tote bags is expected to draw eager shoppers once again, further cementing Trader Joe’s status as a purveyor of not just groceries, but also highly coveted merchandise.
