Audi’s latest announcement for its 2025 lineup brings a series of updates, but notably absent are the A5 coupe and Cabriolet models, along with their sportier counterparts, the S5 and RS5 coupes and convertibles. Audi confirmed to Car and Driver that these two-door variants will not be part of the 2025 model year lineup. However, the four-door Sportback versions of the A5, S5, and RS5 will continue with minimal changes for the new model year.
Introduced for the 2008 model year, the A5 made a mark with its sleek and refined design, initially featuring a 3.2-liter V-6 engine in the coupe variant. The S5 followed with a robust 4.2-liter V-8 and a manual transmission option. The Cabriolet version joined in 2010, offering a range that included a 2.0-liter four-cylinder and later upgraded to a supercharged V-6 for its S-branded model, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
While the four-door Sportback model had been available in other markets during the first generation, it wasn’t until the second-generation A5 arrived in 2018 that American consumers had access to this variant. The second generation featured sharper styling and debuted with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine in the A5 and a turbocharged V-6 in the S5, initially offering a manual transmission option in the A5 and later transitioning to an eight-speed automatic exclusively for the S5.
The RS5, known for its performance prowess, first appeared in the U.S. in 2013 with a 444-hp 4.2-liter V-8 engine paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. In its second generation, the RS5 adopted a twin-turbo V-6 with the same power output and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Despite the discontinuation of the two-door variants, Audi enthusiasts can still look forward to the four-door A5 Sportback, S5 Sportback, and RS5 Sportback models, which will receive updates for the upcoming model year. Audi has enhanced certain packages with additional features, such as rear USB ports in the Convenience package, and all A5 models will now feature black exterior trim. Additionally, a new S line Plus package, offering further darkened trim options, is now available on Premium Plus and Prestige models.
