Dezeen and Bentley have joined forces for the second consecutive year to unveil a global competition aimed at soliciting groundbreaking proposals that could profoundly influence future lifestyles over the next century.
The “Start Something Powerful Competition” is open to individuals worldwide, aged 18 and above, across all professions. Entrants are invited to submit their visionary ideas until August 21, 2024, for a chance to win a share of the £30,000 prize pool, with the top prize set at £15,000.
Aligned with the launch of the new Bentley Continental GT and commemorating a century since W.O. Bentley introduced the pioneering Speed motor car, the competition challenges participants to envision bold and forward-thinking concepts akin to Bentley’s legacy of redefining automotive standards.
Participants are encouraged to propose architectural innovations, urban designs, new materials, mobility solutions, and wellness innovations that could revolutionize how future generations live. The aim is to discover prototypes that could serve as blueprints for future living, anticipating technological advancements, societal shifts, and environmental concerns.
Entries will be evaluated based on five criteria: innovation, impact on lifestyle, sustainability, alignment with Bentley’s ethos of beauty and craftsmanship, and the quality of visual presentation. The judging panel comprises designers and journalists from Bentley and Dezeen.
The competition allows contestants to utilize generative AI tools, provided they disclose their usage and methodology. Submissions close on August 21, 2024, with finalists scheduled to be announced in October 2024 on Dezeen.
Building on the success of last year’s “Future Luxury Retail Design Competition,” which attracted over 145 entries from 33 countries and was won by Finnish design agency Ultra, this year’s initiative aims to further explore visionary concepts that redefine luxury living and retail experiences.
Entrants from the previous competition are eligible to participate again, highlighting the continuity and evolution in Bentley and Dezeen’s commitment to fostering innovation and creativity in design.
