Shenzhen, celebrated for its futuristic design and inclusive culture, has cemented its status as a hub for the fashion industry and a haven for creative minds. This vibrant city launched its biannual fashion event, the A/W 2024 Shenzhen Fashion Week, on Saturday with an opening forum and fashion show.
Since its inception nine years ago, Shenzhen Fashion Week has grown into one of China’s most influential fashion events. This year’s theme, “RGB,” symbolizes the endless possibilities for fashion by representing the primary colors—red, green, and blue—whose combinations create a spectrum of hues.
Pan Ming, head of the Shenzhen Garment Industry Association, highlighted the event’s significance. “More than 40 brands and designers from across the country will launch their latest collections during the fashion week, alongside themed exhibitions, forums, contests, and events that either embody creativity or stimulate fashion-related consumption,” he said.
During the forum, Shenzhen Fashion Week announced a strategic partnership with Condé Nast, a leading global media company. This collaboration aims to promote the international development of the event, attracting more global designers, fashion brands, and media. The partnership promises to infuse Shenzhen Fashion Week with an international perspective and innovative ideas.
The opening show on Saturday evening, themed “The City of Freedom” and “Restart,” took place at OCT Harbor in Nanshan District. The runway was adorned with meticulous decorations and straw-like carpeting, creating a relaxed, carefree ambiance. An audience of over 800 people watched as models showcased the autumn and winter collections of Shenzhen-based brand EITIE and its sub-brand VIMAGE.
Jack, a U.S. audience member attending for the second year, praised the show. “I thought that the show was wonderful from start to finish,” he told Shenzhen Daily. “My friends are the designers for the brands, so I came here to support them. Both [brand] lines are fantastic. The outfits range from casual to professional, which I think is absolutely beautiful and going to do quite well.”
Commenting on Shenzhen’s fashion industry, Jack noted, “Shenzhen is a contemporary city that is very young and vibrant. I think fashion dictates here, and you can see that anywhere and everywhere.”
The autumn/winter edition of Shenzhen Fashion Week will run until April 21. Beyond the runway shows, more than 20 shopping malls and over 1,000 brands and stores are hosting various activities, providing residents with exciting experiences and attractive shopping opportunities.
