BMW has confirmed that the X4 will not see a third generation, though an electric iX4 might be in the pipeline.
While the new-generation X3 was unveiled last month, BMW informed Italy’s Motor1 that there are no plans to continue the X4, a coupe-styled version of the X3 that has been on the market since 2014.
For those interested in a coupe-styled SUV, BMW suggests the recently-released X2, which is only 200mm shorter than the outgoing X4 and similarly priced. Alternatively, buyers needing more space are directed to the larger X6. For everyone else, BMW considers the X3 “ideal.”
An insider known as ‘ynguldyn’ claims that the BMW X4 will cease production in November 2025, with an electric iX4 slated to begin production a year later. The report suggests that the iX4 will come in three versions: the 40 xDrive, 50 xDrive, and M60 xDrive, with a potential high-performance iX4 M also in development.
Although BMW has not officially announced the iX4, Automotive News speculated in August 2023 that the iX4 could enter production in late 2026, utilizing BMW’s forthcoming Neue Klasse electric platform.
In the interim, the aging X4 will continue to be sold alongside the new X3.
