Alessandro Manfredi, Dove’s global chief marketing officer, is set to leave Unilever after an impressive 28-year career. Manfredi has been instrumental in shaping Dove’s influential “Campaign for Real Beauty,” which has been challenging societal beauty standards since its inception in 2004.
Manfredi announced his departure on LinkedIn, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the “Real Beauty” campaign, which he views as a fitting endpoint to his tenure. Throughout his career at Unilever, Manfredi held several key positions, including global vice president of the Dove master brand and executive vice president for Dove. Under his leadership, the “Real Beauty” campaign became one of the most celebrated marketing initiatives, greatly increasing Dove’s consumer base. In 2023, Dove’s innovative marketing strategies, including the acclaimed “Reverse Selfie” campaign, contributed to an 8.9% increase in sales for Unilever’s Personal Care division, which represents 23% of its $64 million revenue.
Manfredi’s departure signals the end of a significant chapter for Dove, a brand renowned for its purpose-driven marketing. His legacy is defined by a commitment to combining social impact with business success, setting a benchmark for the industry in driving both social change and profitability.
