Porsche is recalling 17,278 imported Taycan electric vehicles (EVs) in China due to potential brake hose defects, marking the second recall in the past year for the high-end model.
According to an announcement by China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), the recall affects Taycan series EVs manufactured between January 7, 2020, and April 24, 2024. The recall will commence on August 31, 2024.
The issue stems from the front brake hoses, which may crack and leak brake fluid due to design flaws. This defect could lead to reduced braking effectiveness, longer stopping distances, and an increased risk of crashes.
Porsche has stated that authorized dealers will provide free replacements of optimized front axle brake hoses to address the safety concern.
This is not the first recall for Porsche’s Taycan EVs in China. In October 2023, the automaker recalled 2,570 Taycan EVs due to battery thermal runaway risks. In 2022, Porsche also conducted two separate recalls of Taycan EVs in the country.
The Taycan is one of the most expensive EVs available in China, with prices starting from RMB 1,038,000 ($142,840) to RMB 1,998,000, according to Porsche’s website.
