Dhaka gears up to host the first International Jewellery Machinery Expo Bangladesh (IJMEB) starting Thursday, aimed at integrating technology into traditional jewellery practices to elevate Bangladesh’s gold industry towards export excellence.
Organized by the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) in collaboration with Indian partner KNC Services, the three-day expo will unfold at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB). With the theme “Technology for excellence in jewellery,” the event will welcome visitors daily from 11am to 7pm.
Thirty companies from 10 countries, including India, Italy, Turkey, UAE, Germany, China, and Thailand, have confirmed their participation in this premier edition of IJMEB.
Highlighting the significance of the expo, Bajus President Sayem Sobhan Anvir emphasized the need to revitalize Bangladesh’s jewellery industry, historically overlooked, to align with global standards and aspirations of a prosperous ‘Sonar Bangla’.
“To achieve our goals, policy support is crucial to attract new investments and enhance productivity through technological advancements,” Anvir remarked, underscoring the private sector’s role alongside public entities.
Anvir expressed optimism that IJMEB 2024 would foster knowledge exchange and modernize Bangladesh’s jewellery sector, rekindling its former glory in craftsmanship.
“The introduction of advanced machinery at the expo aims to empower our goldsmiths with contemporary skills, vital for revitalizing Bangladeshi jewellery craftsmanship,” Anvir stated.
Emphasizing the role of technology in boosting Bangladesh’s gold exports, Anvir highlighted the necessity of new factories and integration of modern machinery to unlock the sector’s export potential.
Kranti Nagvekar, CEO of Indian partner KNC Services, praised Bangladesh’s jewellery craftsmanship and affirmed her company’s commitment to supporting the country in hosting such a prestigious international event.
“When technology augments the craftsmanship of Bangladeshi goldsmiths, Bangladesh will shine in the global jewellery markets,” Nagvekar remarked, reflecting on the expo’s potential impact.
Representatives from various international and Bangladeshi companies, including Tishya CNC Engineering Works, JTE, OTEC, and Dreamz Instrument Technology, among others, are set to participate, showcasing cutting-edge innovations in jewellery machinery.
The inaugural IJMEB aims to set a new benchmark in the global jewellery machinery sector, fostering collaborations and propelling Bangladesh towards becoming a significant player in the international gold market.
