Samsung has a rich history with its Galaxy Watch lineup, standing out as a leading OEM in the smartwatch market. As anticipation builds for the launch of the Galaxy Watch 7, there’s speculation that Samsung might introduce a key upgrade enhancing its capabilities as a family health tracker.
An APK teardown, which analyzes work-in-progress code to predict future features, suggests that Samsung is working on family health data sharing for Galaxy Watches. While these predictions are not always guaranteed to appear in public releases, recent findings in the Samsung Health app indicate promising developments.
Screenshots of the activated UI screens reveal that Samsung Health will soon enable monitoring of health data from family members’ Galaxy Watches. This feature includes an approval process where a parent’s Samsung account can manage and process health data from their child’s Samsung account. For this to work, each family member, including children, must have their own Galaxy Watch and wear it consistently to maintain accurate health statistics.
To address security and privacy concerns, the family data-sharing feature incorporates several safeguards. Family members can stop sharing or adjust the amount and type of data shared at any time. They will also have the option to preview the data sharing setup in advance. Access to a child’s health information requires guardian consent, and shared data will be automatically deleted if there is prolonged inactivity, ensuring privacy is maintained.
While it’s unclear if this feature will be exclusive to the Galaxy Watch 7, it’s possible that Samsung might initially limit it to the latest model before extending it to older Galaxy Watch versions. This strategy could provide a financial incentive to upgrade while eventually enhancing the overall Galaxy Watch ecosystem.
