The battle for the Formula E championship is intensifying as the season 10 calendar enters its final phase, with only four races remaining. Two of these pivotal contests will take place at the Portland International Raceway in America’s northwest on June 29 and 30.
The Porsche 99X Electric, driven by the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team, heads to Portland as the season’s record-holder for victories. The Portuguese driver António Félix da Costa, who secured Porsche’s fifth win of the season in Shanghai, has fond memories of Portland, having clinched a podium finish at the circuit’s Formula E debut last year. His teammate, Pascal Wehrlein, who has triumphed in Mexico and Misano, currently stands second in the World Championship as Porsche leads the manufacturers’ classification.
The Porsche team aims to extend its dominance, bolstered by contributions from Andretti Formula E. This customer team has delivered victories in Diriyah with defending World Champion Jake Dennis and achieved four podium finishes, including Norman Nato’s recent success in Shanghai. Portland, the home race for the Indianapolis-based Andretti team, offers a crucial opportunity to secure a strong position ahead of the season finale in London.
Florian Modlinger, Director of Factory Motorsport Formula E, expressed optimism: “Our recent victories in Berlin and Shanghai have given us momentum. We’re expecting two competitive races in Portland, similar to Misano and Shanghai, where we demonstrated our winning capabilities.”
Pascal Wehrlein is focused on the task ahead: “Even though Portland isn’t a typical Formula E track, we’re ready to leverage our experience from last year to optimize our setup. As we approach the season’s climax, our goal is to maximize our points.”
António Félix da Costa is enthusiastic about returning to Portland: “I love racing in the USA, where sports are so highly regarded. Last year’s podium in Portland was a highlight, and we’re in a stronger position this season. We aim to carry the momentum from our recent successes into these races and continue our winning streak.”
The Portland E-Prix offers drivers and teams a chance to score double points, setting the stage for a thrilling conclusion to the season in London on July 20 and 21.
