Laurent Dordet, CEO of Hermès Horloger, unveils the latest addition to Hermès’ esteemed watch collection, the Hermès Cut. This new model marks a departure from conventional designs in luxury timepieces, emphasizing simplicity and innovation that resonate deeply with Hermès’ identity.
“Let’s propose something that’s not in line with the competition, but in line with who we are. And if there are customers interested in the Hermès identity, then they will come,” remarked Dordet, underscoring the brand’s commitment to distinctive craftsmanship.
The Hermès Cut, showcased at the recent Watches & Wonders event, represents Hermès’ first foray into creating a sports timepiece tailored specifically for women, integrating an in-house movement within a design that defies traditional round shapes. Highlighting a range of vibrant rubber strap options, the watch combines functionality with the elegance synonymous with Hermès.
“We’ve made significant strides in the men’s sector with our latest complications and the H08 line,” noted Dordet. “Now, it’s time to cater to women who appreciate mechanical watches and intricate details.”
Drawing inspiration from Hermès’ rich heritage of unconventional designs, Creative Director Philippe Delhotal crafted the Hermès Cut by exploring geometric vocabulary dear to the brand. This collection exemplifies Hermès’ approach to watches, where each model, from the iconic Arceau and Cape Cod to the distinctive Heure H, reflects the brand’s distinct identity and history.
“The challenge was to create a shape that hasn’t been proposed before,” explained Dordet. “The Hermès Cut embodies this spirit, with nuances that highlight our dedication to craftsmanship.”
Powered by the self-winding Manufacture Hermès H1912 movement, the Hermès Cut features a satin-brushed and polished case, accented by its unique cut edges. Available in steel or a two-tone combination with rose gold, and optionally adorned with bezel-set diamonds, the watch offers versatility through a seamlessly integrated metal bracelet and interchangeable rubber straps in a palette of eight Hermès colors.
“In the end, we’ve achieved something truly unique through a meticulous process of refinement,” Dordet concluded.
The Hermès Cut stands as a testament to Hermès’ unwavering pursuit of excellence and innovation in luxury watchmaking, offering discerning customers a blend of timeless elegance and contemporary design.
