For the first time, Sri Lankan companies participated in the International Jewellery Vietnam (IJV) 2024, held from June 8 to 11 at Nguyen Du Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City. The event was organized by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Vietnam, in collaboration with the National Gem and Jewellery Authority (NGJA) and the Industrial Development Board (IDB).
Five Sri Lankan companies—Prasad Gems and Lapidary, Ranmuthu Jewellers, Elegant Jewellery Works, Oriental Jewel Craft, and Southern Jewellery and WorkShop—showcased their products at the fair. The exhibition featured an array of high-quality items, including diamonds, sapphires, rubies, emeralds, coloured gemstones, amber, pearls, gold and silver jewellery collections, as well as machinery, equipment, tools, chemicals, and packaging used in the jewellery industry.
The fair also saw participation from Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Poland, Thailand, and Vietnam, attracting around 3,000 visitors, primarily from the gem and jewellery industry. The Sri Lankan booths garnered significant attention, marking a successful debut in this new market.
Sri Lankan companies secured deals and established long-term buyer relationships during the event. Vietnam, though previously unexplored by Sri Lankan gem and jewellery exporters, proved to be a promising and lucrative market. Reflecting this growing interest, the Vietnam Association of Gemstones (VAG) agreed to send a delegation of eight businessmen to the Ratnapura International Gem and Jewellery Show, scheduled from June 29 to July 1, 2024, in Ratnapura. Additionally, a Vietnamese company will exhibit its products at the Ratnapura show.
Kishani Wickramasinghe, Minister (Commercial) of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Hanoi, coordinated Sri Lanka’s successful participation at IJV 2024.
