Mercedes-Benz AMG has already phased out the V-8 engine from its latest C 63 model, and soon the Affalterbach tuner will introduce a fully electric variant to the C-Class lineup.
The German automaker is developing an electric compact sedan as part of the C-Class family, with AMG crafting its own high-performance version. While prototypes of the standard model have been seen for nearly a year, recent spy shots reveal the first look at the AMG variant.
Distinct from earlier C-Class EV prototypes, the AMG model boasts a wider intake on the front fascia and additional aerodynamic flics. It also features a wider track, a larger brake package with cross-drilled rotors, and AMG-specific wheels. Observations from our photographer indicate that the AMG model sits on lower suspension.
Details on horsepower remain undisclosed. The current AMG C 43 delivers 402 hp from a 2.0-liter turbo-4, whereas the C 63 provides up to 671 hp from a 2.0-liter turbo-4 paired with a plug-in hybrid system.
The C-Class EV will be built on the MB.EA Small platform, a dedicated EV architecture that will also support an electric GLC-Class. Testing for the GLC-Class EV, including AMG variants, is already underway.
Both the C-Class EV and GLC-Class EV are anticipated to hit the U.S. market next year as 2026 models, with AMG versions arriving simultaneously.
In addition, Mercedes-Benz is testing a smaller CLA-Class with electric and hybrid powertrains, expected to debut late this year or early next, including an electric AMG variant. AMG is also preparing prototypes for a dedicated EV to serve as an electric alternative to the current GT 4-Door Coupe, built on the AMG.EA platform and slated for release next year.
