Tennis star Sloane Stephens has unveiled a limited-edition collaboration with GOT BAG, a sustainable backpack and luggage brand that crafts its products from ocean plastic waste. Launched on Monday, the capsule collection features three items: a versatile tote bag and two cross-body bags of different sizes, all in a muted gray colorway named “porpoise.” Designed with Stephens’ input, the bags are embroidered with “calmness & confidence,” honoring her grandfather.
GOT BAG sources plastic waste from coastal areas, rivers, and the ocean around Java, Indonesia. The collected plastic, gathered from 19 communities, is cleaned, sorted, and processed into yarn, which is then used to create their eco-friendly products. Since its inception in 2016, GOT BAG has recycled over 2.2 million pounds of plastic waste.
The tote bag is priced at $79, while the large and small cross-body bags are available for $49 and $39, respectively. Twenty percent of the proceeds will support the Sloane Stephens Foundation, which Stephens co-founded with her mother, Sybil Smith, and her uncle, Roland Smith. Since 2013, the foundation has been dedicated to providing health, wellness, and educational opportunities to under-resourced youth.
This launch is part of a busy season for Stephens, who recently debuted her podcast, appeared on NBC’s Today Show, and announced her role as producer for an upcoming Amazon Prime documentary on junior tennis. Stephens kicked off her grass-court season in Birmingham with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over China’s Yuan Yue.
