Champagne enthusiasts Down Under are in for a treat as Champagne Lallier unveils its latest addition to the Réflexion series, R.020, in Australia. This launch marks a significant moment for Lallier, representing the 10th installment in the Réflexion line-up and the inaugural blend crafted by Dominique Demarville, the esteemed Cellar Master and General Manager of Lallier.
R.020 encapsulates the essence of the 2020 harvest, a year characterized by nearly ideal growing conditions. The result is an exquisite wine boasting elegant notes of white flowers and invigorating hints of fresh citrus.
Expressing his enthusiasm for this inaugural blend, Demarville stated, “I am immensely proud to introduce this new cuvée to the world. With R.020 brut multi-vintage cuvée, we aim to encapsulate the spirit of the bountiful 2020 vintage in Champagne, while showcasing the perfect harmony between Lallier’s signature elements: freshness, purity, intensity, and depth.”
He continued, “It’s both an honor and a privilege to contribute to the Réflexion cuvées, an annual tradition at Lallier. I eagerly anticipate sharing this special blend with Champagne enthusiasts worldwide.”
The launch of R.020 heralds a pivotal moment for the Réflexion collection, accompanied by a fresh brand identity and a redesigned bottle. The label, adorned with an intricate vine leaf motif, symbolizes the house’s deep-rooted connection to terroir and unwavering commitment to nature. This exclusive bottle shape adds a touch of sophistication to the presentation.
In contrast to conventional non-vintage Champagnes, which seek to maintain consistency across years, Lallier’s Réflexion range celebrates the intersection of tradition and innovation, embracing the unique nuances of each harvest.
Reflecting on the exceptional quality of the 2020 harvest, Demarville remarked, “Following the outstanding vintages of 2018 and 2019, 2020 proved to be another remarkable year. The Champagne region witnessed an average yield, yielding healthy grapes that flourished in the undisturbed natural environment.”
He added, “The dry, sun-soaked summer facilitated an early harvest, resulting in grapes of exceptional intensity and freshness, achieving optimal maturity for crafting exquisite wines.”
Aged for a minimum of 30 months, R.020 presents a distinctive blend, with Chardonnay taking precedence over Pinot Noir for the first time, comprising 51% of the blend. On the palate, R.020 delights with aromas of white flowers and zesty citrus fruits, offering a refreshing and delicate start that culminates in a lingering aromatic finish with a touch of mineral salinity.
Making its debut in the Australian market, Champagne Lallier stands as the crown jewel of Campari Group’s newly established House of RARE portfolio, showcasing the group’s premium offerings, including Champagne and ultra-premium spirits.
Christophe Prat, Managing Director French Icon Brands at Campari, expressed his excitement, stating, “Lallier stands among the select few who challenge the conventions of brut Champagne, prioritizing the expression of the base year over maintaining a consistent tasting profile.”
He concluded, “With the expertise of Dominique Demarville, we’re poised to push boundaries while crafting impeccably balanced blends year after year. We eagerly anticipate the launch of brut multi-vintage cuvée R.020, accompanied by our refined, elegant new bottle design and expressive brand identity, sure to captivate connoisseurs worldwide.”
