BMW enthusiasts, get ready to rev your engines as the 2025 BMW 1-Series prepares to make its grand entrance with a significant facelift. The anticipation builds with the release of the first teaser, offering a tantalizing glimpse into what’s to come. Notably, BMW M’s official account shares a shadowy image of the upcoming hatchback, hinting at a debut that includes a hot hatch version right from the start.
Expected to be a substantial update rather than a ground-up redesign, the 2025 BMW 1-Series, internally coded as F70, will likely build upon the foundation of the existing F40 generation. BMW whets our appetite with an Instagram video showcasing the lineage of 1-Series models over the past two decades, teasing, “Ready for the new 1? First, we celebrate the last 20 years.” Shortly thereafter, BMW M’s Instagram account drops profile shots of the forthcoming model with the caption, “There is a new ONE coming soon.”
Maintaining its iconic five-door hatchback profile, the 1-Series will sport refreshed front and rear bumpers along with updated LED lighting elements. Recent spy shots suggest the hotter variant will boast enhanced aerodynamics, including deeper side skirts, a subtle rear spoiler, and quad tailpipes reminiscent of the outgoing M135i xDrive. Inside, expect upgrades such as the new digital cockpit and the latest technological innovations from BMW’s repertoire.
Underneath, the next 1-Series will share its updated front-wheel-drive architecture with BMW’s X1 and X2 models, as well as with the Mini Cooper and Countryman variants.
Currently, the BMW 1-Series offers the formidable M135i xDrive as its range-topping model, delivering 302 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque from a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. It remains to be seen whether the teased model will serve as a direct successor or potentially elevate performance standards even further.
Traditionally positioned as a direct competitor to Audi’s S3 Sportback and Mercedes-AMG’s A35 4Matic+, the BMW M135i xDrive has carved out its niche in the hot hatch segment. While the prospect of a more potent contender aligning with Audi’s RS3 Sportback and Mercedes-AMG’s A45 4Matic+ seems tantalizing, the likelihood remains slim.
