Mexicana de Aviación, the state-owned carrier of Mexico, has inked a significant deal with Embraer (NYSE: ERJ; B3: EMBR3) for the acquisition of 20 E2 aircraft. The agreement encompasses 10 E190-E2 and 10 E195-E2 jets, with deliveries slated to commence in the second quarter of 2025. Configurations will entail 108 seats for the E190-E2 and 132 seats for the E195-E2, both in a single-class layout.
This move positions Mexicana as the pioneering E2 operator in Mexico, poised to capitalize on the aircraft’s touted advantages of low operating costs and fuel efficiency. Notably, the collaboration underscores Mexicana and Embraer’s joint commitment to sustainability while elevating aviation efficiency.
The decision marks a strategic maneuver for the Mexican state airline, facilitating fleet expansion and modernization. Through this initiative, Mexicana aims to bolster both domestic and international connectivity, offering accessible and comfortable air travel coupled with uncompromising safety and service standards.
Priscilla Doro Solymossy, Vice President of Sales and Marketing and Head of Latin America and the Caribbean at Embraer Commercial Aviation, expressed enthusiasm over Mexicana’s induction into the E2 family as the premier operator in Mexico. She lauded Mexicana’s commendable progress and rapid growth since resuming operations in December 2023, highlighting the airline’s burgeoning network spanning 18 destinations and its impressive track record of transporting over 115,000 passengers. Accumulating more than 3,280 flight hours within a short timeframe underscores Mexicana’s unwavering dedication to operational excellence and customer-centric service.
