Samsung is poised to outpace Google in integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into its wearable devices, as the company announces upcoming Galaxy AI features for the Galaxy Watch. Although the update won’t roll out until later this year, a sneak peek of what’s to come has been provided. Interested users with compatible Galaxy Watches can even sign up for the beta starting in June.
According to the press release, the forthcoming AI-infused features encompass a wide array of functionalities, ranging from “comprehensive health insights” to “motivational encouragement.” This advancement aims to surpass the effectiveness of current push notifications, such as those from Samsung Health reminding users to stay active even during times when their bodies may feel least inclined. With the introduction of the Galaxy AI-infused Energy Score, users can anticipate more nuanced insights into their energy levels, potentially akin to Fitbit’s Daily Readiness score. Samsung’s Energy Score will leverage data on sleep quality, duration, and activity levels to assess the user’s current energy state accurately.
Moreover, Samsung asserts that its sleep algorithms will undergo enhancement through AI integration, promising improved Sleep Insights. These insights will include metrics on nocturnal movements and sustained heart rate, providing users with a deeper understanding of their sleep patterns.
For fitness enthusiasts, the Galaxy Watch will offer more personalized training statistics, including insights into Aerobic Threshold (AT) / Anaerobic Threshold (AnT) heart rates and a Functional Threshold Power (FTP) metric tailored for cyclists. Additionally, AI will power Workout Routines, serving as a virtual coach during exercise sessions, while the Race feature aids users in training for endurance events like marathons.
Samsung emphasizes that these AI features are just the initial phase of a broader initiative set to revolutionize the Galaxy portfolio. While specifics on subscription requirements for accessing these features remain undisclosed, Samsung mentions that the Galaxy AI features will be free until 2025, suggesting a potential subscription model thereafter.
While there’s no tangible product to explore yet, the beta for these features will be available next month for compatible Galaxy Watches, starting from the Galaxy Watch 4 and subsequent releases.
