In celebration of its 10th anniversary, Archie Rose Distilling Co. is unveiling its Single Cask Whisky Series, a testament to the distillery’s expertise in whisky production.
The inaugural release, Batch Number One, will be available from June and includes three distinct whiskies: a Smoked Rye Malt Whisky, a Heritage Rye Malt Whisky, and a Single Malt Whisky. Future annual batches will feature carefully selected exceptional whiskies that exemplify the Archie Rose collection.
Master Distiller Dave Withers highlighted the uniqueness of the series.
“These single casks were chosen because they possess extraordinary qualities that couldn’t be diluted by blending with other high-quality casks. Each cask’s distinct character needed to be showcased individually,” Withers explained.
Handpicked from the distillery’s 35,000 casks, these whiskies stand out for their superior quality. While most casks are blended, these select few are bottled unblended and at cask strength, celebrating their individual excellence.
Archie Rose Founder Will Edwards emphasized the significance of the single cask release in the distillery’s journey.
“Respect for ingredients has always been central to our craft, and these single-cask whiskies are the purest expression of that philosophy. Each cask tells a unique story through its flavor profile, representing the pinnacle of our decade-long dedication to whisky making,” Edwards remarked. “Releasing these single casks marks a milestone of maturity for both our whiskies and our company.”
The first whisky in the series, Single Cask Whisky Batch Number One: Smoked Rye, is crafted from NSW heritage rye grain, smoked with sustainably harvested Australian native stringybark, and aged in second-fill French oak. This cask, set aside from the 2023 Trials & Exceptions series, offers a harmonious blend of sweetness, smoke, and spice with tasting notes of campfire, grilled peaches, and prosciutto.
The Heritage Rye, the second in the series, is made from heirloom Riverina rye grain and fully matured in an Australian apera cask, a nod to the Australian fortified wine industry. Tasting notes describe an aroma of fresh rye bread with earthy, toasty, biscuity sweetness and a spicy finish, complemented by rich fruit notes from the apera cask.
The final whisky, Single Malt, employs Archie Rose’s six-malt steam production process and is aged in an apera cask. This four-and-a-half-year-old whisky is noted for its flavors of sweet raisins, strawberries, and pineapples, with layers of malt, roasted almonds, espresso, and cacao.
This exclusive release will be available from June 10th, only through the Archie Rose website and cellar door.
