In a significant move, Gibson Wines, a distinguished establishment in the Barossa region, has forged a strategic distribution alliance with The Wine Company, marking its inaugural formal distribution agreement in Victoria, New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, and southeast Queensland.
Set to commence operations on the 1st of July, The Wine Company will collaborate with Gibson’s existing distributor in far north Queensland, LG Liquor. Established in 1985 and under the ownership of the esteemed Tahbilk Group, The Wine Company boasts an extensive distribution portfolio encompassing renowned labels such as d’Arenberg, Yering Station, Redman, Plantagenet, and Xanadu, alongside international sensations like González Byass and Banfi.
Rob Gibson, Founder and Chief Winemaker of Gibson Wines, articulated the winery’s allure for trade clientele, stating, “Amidst challenging times in recent years, our family-owned brand has demonstrated resilience and reliability. The enduring appeal of classic Barossa, especially in its red varietals, resonates strongly. We are gratified that The Wine Company shares this ethos and elicits demand from trade customers.”
Renowned for its flagship offering, The Dirtman Barossa Shiraz, Gibson anticipates that the partnership will bolster recognition of its diverse product portfolio, particularly within the on-premise sector.
“Beyond our acclaimed flagship, there exists a trove of Gibson treasures waiting to be discovered, and we are confident that The Wine Company’s adept team will delight their clientele in uncovering them,” added Gibson.
This appointment coincides harmoniously with Gibson’s premiumization initiative, characterized by enhancements in packaging, the debut of a new brand identity, Dirtborn Barossa, and a rejuvenation of its cellar door experience.
Moreover, Gibson has introduced a new, super-premium offering: Burkes Hill Single Site Eden Valley Shiraz. Marking a milestone as Gibson’s inaugural single vineyard Shiraz release, this distinguished bottling boasts tasting notes evoking dense blackcurrant nuances, hints of Asian spice, and refined tannins, retailing at an RRP of $85.
Michael Wilson, General Manager of The Wine Company, emphasized the shared commitment to excellence and heritage between the two entities.
“Incorporating an iconic, family-centric label such as Gibson into our portfolio not only enriches our Barossa offerings but also complements the ethos of The Wine Company: a purveyor of robust, premium, and esteemed wine brands steeped in familial legacy. Our team is particularly drawn to the breadth of Gibson’s range, anchored by The Dirtman as the centerpiece, and further enhanced by the vibrant and contemporary Discovery Road series, which we anticipate will resonate strongly within the on-premise sector.”
