India’s leading airline, IndiGo, is currently engaged in discussions with three aircraft manufacturers with the aim of acquiring at least 100 smaller planes as part of its strategic initiative to bolster its regional network, as per a report by the Economic Times.
According to the report, the Indian carrier is engaged in negotiations with ATR, Embraer, and Airbus for this substantial order. Presently, IndiGo operates 45 ATR-72 aircraft, each with a seating capacity of 78 passengers, and is poised to receive an additional five this year, the report further stated. While indications lean towards ATR being the preferred choice, Airbus A220 and Embraer’s E-175 remain contenders, the report elucidated.
This development follows closely on the heels of IndiGo’s recent announcement of securing a deal to procure 30 Airbus A350-900 aircraft. This significant acquisition not only facilitates the expansion of the carrier’s network within domestic boundaries but also extends its reach into international markets. Moreover, the deal signifies IndiGo’s foray into the wide-body aircraft segment, thereby fortifying its fleet and operational capabilities.
