From April 22nd to 26th, the twelfth edition of Monte-Carlo Fashion Week unfolded, showcasing resort and cruise collections amidst a backdrop of esteemed guests and glamorous venues. Embracing the ethos of sustainability, inclusiveness, and diversity, this year’s fashion extravaganza left an indelible mark on the principality’s fashion landscape.
Kicking off with an official launch at the Principality’s Town Hall, the event transitioned seamlessly to the exclusive Yacht Club de Monaco, setting the stage for a week of sartorial splendor and innovation.
A highlight of the week was the unveiling of Federico Marchetti’s latest literary endeavor, “The Adventures of an Innovator.” Marchetti, the visionary Founder of the Yoox Net-a-Porter group and President of the Sustainable Markets Initiative Fashion Task Force, shared insights from his book during an engaging interview conducted by Justin Highman, Deputy Managing Director of the MEB. Marchetti’s contributions to sustainable fashion were further recognized as he was bestowed with the prestigious Positive Change Award at the Fashion Awards ceremony, affirming his status as a digital entrepreneur and pioneer in the realm of sustainable fashion.
Stella Jean, revered as the godmother of the event, captivated audiences with her collaborative collection featuring artisans from Umbria. Offering a tantalizing glimpse into the future, Jean presented Haiti’s Olympic uniforms, set to debut at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games opening ceremony.
The ethos of sustainability resonated throughout the week, epitomized by Gracey Owusu Agyemang, recipient of the Sustainable Emerging Designer Award. Agyemang’s luxury collection, crafted in collaboration with Dijágo Studios, celebrated Afro-Asian craftsmanship and culture, underscoring the transformative power of sustainable fashion.
Further championing environmental stewardship was Beach & Cashmere Monaco by Federica Nardoni Spinetta, which showcased a collection crafted from recycled sails sourced from the Yacht Club de Monaco. This innovative approach highlighted the theme of circularity, reinforcing the event’s commitment to sustainability.
Federica Nardoni Spinetta, President and Founder of the Monegasque Chamber of Fashion and Monte-Carlo Fashion Week, expressed pride in supporting Monegasque brands and providing a prestigious platform for international designers to showcase their collections and engage in discussions surrounding sustainable and circular fashion.
In addition to the runway extravaganzas, the Fashion Hub emerged as a dynamic space hosting Pop-Ups and the Monaco Women in Finance Institute Symposium, promoting inclusion, female entrepreneurship, and initiatives against violence towards women.
Among the standout showcases were Victoria Silvstedt by Marli Dresses, the culturally rich A’Biddikkia brand, Japanese couturier Mami Okano, and the sophisticated lingerie brand Les Dessous de Monaco. Renowned entrepreneur Chiara Ferragni lent her expertise as a mentor, recognizing the excellence of Les Dessous de Monaco’s entirely Made-in-Monaco collection.
The closing event was adorned with stage decor by the Pavillon Bosio Academy of Fine Arts of Monaco, culminating in the recognition of emerging talent from Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts in London, through the Educational Award.
Monte-Carlo Fashion Week not only dazzled with its couture creations but also served as a beacon of innovation, sustainability, and empowerment, solidifying its status as a premier global fashion event.
