BMW has revealed the latest iteration of its i4 electric sedan and 4 Series Gran Coupe, set to hit global markets in July 2024. The refreshed models showcase subtle yet notable enhancements to both exterior styling and interior technology.
In terms of aesthetics, both the i4 and 4 Series Gran Coupe receive updates to the front fascia, including redesigned grilles and new headlamps featuring revamped daytime running lights. Higher-tier variants come equipped with adaptive LED headlights as standard, while the option for LED tail-lamps with laser light, akin to those found on the limited-edition M4 CSL, is now available. Completing the exterior revisions are a revised rear bumper and fresh design alloy wheels. Additionally, buyers can opt for M Sport packages, incorporating sportier styling elements and a larger diameter exhaust system for the 4 Series Gran Coupe.
Inside the cabin, the fundamental design remains unchanged, with the distinctive curved BMW display atop the dashboard retained. However, the center console has undergone a redesign, featuring revamped central air-con vents and repositioned or redesigned switchgear for some physical control surfaces. The digital interfaces now operate on updated versions of BMW’s OS.
Shifting focus to the powertrains, the i4 retains its existing lineup with no significant updates. Buyers can choose from four drivetrain options: the base rear-wheel eDrive 35, rear-wheel drive eDrive 40, all-wheel drive xDrive40, and the range-topping M50 xDrive. The eDrive 35 delivers 282 bhp and 400 Nm of torque, offering a range of up to 500 km. Meanwhile, the eDrive 40 boosts output to 335 bhp and 430 Nm, and the xDrive 40 provides an even stronger performance with 395 bhp and 600 Nm. Both variants offer ranges of up to 600 km and 548 km, respectively. The range-topping M50 boasts 536 bhp and 795 Nm, with a claimed range of up to 522 km.
For the petrol-powered 4 Series Gran Coupe, buyers will have a choice of four- and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, depending on the market. A notable change across all units is the incorporation of 48V mild-hybrid technology as standard, offering an additional boost of 10.7 bhp and 200 Nm under hard acceleration for approximately 10 seconds.
The updated model range is slated for release in global markets throughout the summer, with expectations for the refreshed i4 to arrive in India in the subsequent months. The i4, BMW’s second electric vehicle for the Indian market following the iX (excluding the Mini brand), has been available for purchase in the country since May 2022.
