On Earth Day, Texas residents will have the opportunity to snag one of 265,000 free reusable bags courtesy of the state’s beloved grocery chain, H-E-B.
Since 2008, H-E-B, along with its affiliated stores Central Market, Joe V’s Smart Shop, and Mi Tienda, has made it a tradition to distribute complimentary Earth Day tote bags to customers. This year, the giveaway continues, with patrons eligible to receive a reusable Earth Day tote featuring a design reminiscent of a Texas postcard, showcasing the stunning landscapes of Big Bend Ranch Texas State Park.
The distribution event kicks off at 1 p.m., and the totes will be available on a first-come, first-served basis until supplies run out.
While Earth Day itself falls on April 22nd, H-E-B recognizes the entire month as Earth Month, underscoring its commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability.
In addition to the annual giveaway, H-E-B launched its School Plastic Bag Recycling Challenge earlier this year, an initiative aimed at encouraging environmental consciousness among Texas students. This year’s challenge yielded impressive results, with 5,000,000 plastic bags collected from 675 participating schools, marking a notable increase from the previous year. Among the winners of the challenge were Windsor Park Elementary and Flour Bluff Primary, both located in Corpus Christi, which received H-E-B gift cards as prizes for their eco-conscious efforts.
H-E-B’s ongoing dedication to environmental initiatives underscores its commitment to fostering a more sustainable future for Texas communities and beyond.
