Groth Vineyards & Winery has announced the upcoming release of its highly anticipated 40th vintage of Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon, scheduled for May 1st, according to a recent press release. In commemoration of this significant milestone, the family has paid homage to its inaugural 1982 vintage by replicating its label and introducing a special emblem on the bottle.
The 40th vintage of Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon serves as a tribute to Groth’s co-founder, Judith Mae Groth, whose enduring influence resonates throughout the winery’s ethos. Judith’s visionary contributions encompassed not only the distinctive style of Groth wines but also extended to the winery’s design, label aesthetics, hospitality ethos, and unwavering commitment to excellence.
Suzanne Groth, the winery’s second-generation president and CEO, expressed her enthusiasm for the release, emphasizing the profound significance of this milestone for the family. Suzanne remarked, “This 40th vintage holds a special place in our hearts, symbolizing not only a monumental achievement but also honoring my mother Judy’s indelible imprint on our family business. Her creative vision, grace, and elegance are reflected in every aspect of our wines.”
The Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon, crafted by Ted Henry, marks his inaugural vintage as the director of winegrowing at Groth Vineyards. Reflecting on the experience, Henry emphasized the wine‘s distinct character, attributed to sustainable farming practices on the Oakville Estate. He remarked, “Crafting the 40th vintage amidst the picturesque Oakville landscape was a privilege. This wine encapsulates the elegance, complexity, and quintessential Oakville essence that has garnered global acclaim.”
To celebrate this milestone, Groth Vineyards & Winery invites enthusiasts to indulge in an exclusive “Through the Decades – 40th Anniversary Library Tasting” at their Oakville tasting room throughout May. Priced at $125 per guest, this 90-minute experience promises a captivating journey through the evolution of the signature Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon.
In a separate development, TripAdvisor recently recognized Castello di Amorosa, the Tuscan-style castle and winery near Calistoga, as one of the top 10 “castles around the world for you to live out your fairytale dreams.” Founder Dario Sattui expressed gratitude for the accolade, underscoring the castle’s role in honoring his Italian heritage and crafting unforgettable experiences for guests.
Lastly, the wine industry mourns the loss of John G. Franzia, a revered figure known for his pioneering contributions to Bronco Wine Co. and the broader viticulture landscape. Franzia’s legacy of excellence and commitment to quality will continue to inspire future generations, leaving an indelible mark on the industry. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, and sisters, leaving behind a profound legacy of innovation and dedication.
