Garuda Indonesia, headquartered in Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta, has officially confirmed its intention to wet-lease 14 aircraft for the upcoming Hajj season, aimed at augmenting widebody capacity to accommodate pilgrims traveling to Jeddah International and Madinah from Indonesia.
A spokesperson from Garuda Indonesia disclosed to ch-aviation that the carrier plans to deploy a mix of A330-300s and B777-300ERs to facilitate the transportation of approximately 109,000 pilgrims during this year’s Hajj pilgrimage. The airline has initiated the process by issuing four Requests for Proposals (RFPs) over recent months, soliciting B777, A330, or B747 aircraft suitable for direct service to Jeddah and Medina without any technical stops. The lease term specified in the RFPs ranges from May 13 to July 21, 2024.
However, Garuda Indonesia has refrained from commenting on the specific operators of the Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance (ACMI) jets involved in the wet-lease arrangements.
According to data from the ch-aviation fleets module, Garuda Indonesia’s existing fleet comprises 74 aircraft. This fleet includes five A330-200s, seventeen A330-300s, three A330-900Ns, forty-one B737-800s, and eight B777-300ERs, showcasing the carrier’s diverse aircraft portfolio tailored to meet various operational requirements.
